Happy New Year! My 2017 in Review

Posted December 31, 2017 by Mallory in Bookish Things, Yearly Recap / 6 Comments

Linking-Up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer one last time in 2017…

New Year’s Eve is my favorite day of the year!  It’s a day of self-reflection – of looking back on everything you’ve accomplished in 2017 and looking forward to 2018’s blank slate.  It’s an evening with your best friends, just so you can kick-off the New Year right.

This past year was pretty eventful. I finally started that “book blog thing” I’d always talked about and launched She is Bookish in May – and then learned that 80% of my department at work got let go the next morning. My job suddenly became global, and I discovered that the world was both bigger and smaller than I ever thought. I traveled more and crossed Napa and Hawaii off my bucket list… plus snuck in a few road trips along the way.  I found Art that inspired me, from museums to theatre and finally saw Hamilton – which defied even my highest expectations.  I think 2018 is going to be even bigger and better.

For my Bookish Friends…May you always have good books to read and if not, may you have the strength to “DNF” them.  I hope 2018 has adventures for you along the way – whether written or in person – and may you have good friends to share these adventures with.

Wishing you all the best in 2018,

-Mallory

Bookish Surprises:

  • Over 30% of my books came from the Library this year, way more than I expected.
  • This was the first year I didn’t  read a physical book.  Everything is on the good old Kindle now.  I’ve actually given given away most of my physical books.
  • This was the first year I did listen to audio books.  In fact, I listened to five, thanks to a new love of self-narrated autobiographies
  • I went both March and October without buying any books, but somehow I spent $324.10 on reading – exactly $0.64 vs. 2016

Blogging Surprises:

Let’s face it everything has been a surprise these first few months of blogging, but what’s surprised me the most is the awesome sense of community among bloggers and the book community.  I’d thought about starting a blog for a looong time and getting this thing off the ground is definitely one of my top highlights of 2017!

Most read posts of 2017

A few of these were definite surprises to me, although I loved seeing a few of my personal favorite posts making the top 10:

  1. Happy New Year!! Congrats on starting your blog, and on reading 105 books. Awesome! Hope 2018 is great for you as well.

I read almost everything on my Kindle now too. Never thought that would happen… 🙂

Same here! I never thought I’d be just reading books on my Kindle – I think I just appreciate the good backlight too much on my Paperwhite! (and let’s face it… I have a terrible one-click habit). I’ve actually started giving away most of my paperbacks except for my absolute favorite. I’m turning into a bookshelf-less bookworm!!!

Thank you, Renee 🙂 I was trying to figure out a good way to do infographics on Canva, although I’m wondering if there is a better program out there for that purpose – I like my PowerPoint charts! Happy New Year!!! <3 :)
