November Wrap-Up: The Countdown to 2018

Oh where or where did November go?  Better yet – WHERE HAS 2017 GONE!?!  Hard to believe we’re just four weeks away from kicking off 2018.  November was an up-and-down month with everything either going top-of-the-world great or everything-is-on-fire bad.  Non-bookish highlights of the month:

  • Spending a week in Hawaii with the husband, complete with volcanos, snorkeling with dolphins, and having our Jeep break-down on top of the tallest mountain in the world. (Don’t worry – we got it started again)
  • Five Thanksgivings with coincidentally, an extra five pounds on the bathroom scale.  Oops!  Guess I know what my New Year’s resolution is going to be.
  • Treating myself to tickets for Waitress the Musical for my birthday.  Our pup, SIr Isaac Newton, celebrated his third Gotcha-Day as well.  (He’s basically our small fuzzy child in lieu of human kids)

On the Blog in December:

This month is all about Holiday reads and getting ready for a great 2018.  I’ve got a huge list of Holiday books to tackle, but the unseasonably warm Minnesota weather has me feeling a little Scrooge-like – we haven’t even got the Christmas decorations out yet.  Hoping to get over that funk and into my December TBR soon.  December’s Blog Goals:

  • Decide on 2-3 reading challenges for 2018.  I’m setting my Goodreads challenge low for next year – the thing just gets too stressful!  Next year is going to be all about reading more variety.  Let me know if you have any good challenge sugestions!
  • Winter cleaning on the blog.  Updating my theme, cleaning-up tags, getting the SEO errr. … Optimized….  I have the week off between Christmas and New Years and hope to get lots of housecleaning done.

December TBR List:

I read a whopping twelve books in November and made it through four of the six books on my monthly TBR.  Go me!  My TBR for the month is mostly Holiday reads once the weather starts cooperating.  However, but I’m also looking forward to Christina Lauren’s new release and the conclusion on Meghan March’s Mount trilogy.

I think I’m okay with 2017 being done – it felt like a long year and I’m ready for something new 🙂 Plus, New Year’s Eve is my favorite holiday so I always get exited for it right around now. Happy reading, Anne!

I definetly need to do something focusing on my backlist. I satdown the other day and figured out how much I’ve spent on books vs. how much I actually ready – it wasn’t pretty! Beat the Backlist actually sounds really fun – I love the team idea and it looks like a great way to meet other bookworms. Thanks for the recomendation!

Oof! I use Yoast, but “understanding Yoast” is on my list for housekeeping this winter. I think I might be purposfully ignoring my SEO becuase it means more work 🙂 Right now the strategy is to make a list of all the housekeeping things, realize I’ll probably do five of them, and then pat myself on the back if I get two accmplished. 😉 Happy reading, Trish!!!

  1. It’s so crazy that 2018 is already so close. This year feels like it just flew by.
Your week in Hawaii sounds wonderful. I definitely hope to go there one day .
I’m glad to read I’m not the only one who doesn’t have any Christmas decorations up yet. I hope to get some done this week.
    Happy Reading!

I broke down and got the Christmas decorations out this afternoon – but it felt really strange because it was 50 outside in Minnesota! (vs. 20’s-30’s). It still feels like Christmas in July, but not in the good way 🙂 Good luck with the Christmas decorations. Next up: the Chrismas shopping! 🙂 Happy reading, Maureen!

November was crazy – but I got a lot of reading done thanks to the eight-hour flight to Hawaii. Sadly, I told myself I didn’t need to write reviews for books I read on vacation, so I’m in struggle mode with December content. Ooops! Guess I’ll actually have to finish some of my half-baked discussion posts 🙂

Thanks, Samantha! You know, even though it’s coming up fast, I really am okay with the year being done. 2017 was a loooong one and I’m looking forward to a fresh slate 🙂

Yes – we will never do five Turkey dinners again!!! Ironically, the only leftovers we ever ended up with was the pie (my favortie part!). I finally got the decorations out this afternoon and while the tree is pretty, it still feels really out of place with the strange warm weather we’ve been having. I thought putting everything up would get me “in the mood” – now I just feel more confused! 🙂

  2. Oh, the Hawaiian getaway sounds wonderful! Except for the Jeep breaking down, of course.

Your new books look tempting. I’m curious about Roomies.

Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    • Mallory

Thanks, Laurel! Christina Lauren is one of my fave authors and while I didn’t love my last read from her (them?), I’m excited to see how Roomies turns out. Happy reading and hope you have a great week 🙂

YES to that Lauren Layne cover!! I actually think the book just sounds okay – but I’m trying read more “new to me” authors and the cover had me sold 🙂 Plus it always feels like a huge struggle to find Holiday books (especially if I’m too picky in my decision… then I just miss the whole holiday due to indecisiveness!)

  3. Ooh Hawaii sounds awesome, especially snorkeling with dolphins. Sounds amazing. And glad you got the Jeep started! I know what you mean though, the fact that 2018 is less than a month away is kinda mind boggling to me!

    Have a great new week!

Know what? I think I’m kind of ready for 2018!! It was an okay year, but I’m ready for that new year/new beginning/blank slate thing 🙂 Have a great week, Greg and happy reading!

  4. I know right, time just flies. I feel the same…

Oh man! I am sort of jealous of that Hawaii trip! I haven’t taken a vacation in foreverrrrrr. (And woooon’t ;_;)

Weirdly, I have no holiday books whatsoever!

As for challenges, I think I’ll be doing the Mount TBR challenge (you can set yours, plus it’s a really good cause xD tackle that old TBR!), and I think I might do some sort of ARC challenge. Mmmmmaybe.

Anyway, have a great week 🙂

Mount TBR might be a good challenge for me. I just did inventory of how many books I bought vs. read this year and well…. it’s not pretty. (But that’s what Holiday breaks are for, right?).

I don’t even want to think about ARC’s – I’ve been tempted to request them once-or-twice and then I look back at said TBR pile, get overwhelmed with guilt, and then get so overwhelemed that I check-out something from the library 🙂 It’s a messy cycle that makes zero sense 😉

Hope you have a great week Eveline and thanks for stopping by 🙂
