Sunday Synopsis 15: Can You Feel the Excitement?

Linking up to The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer – a weekly meme where fellow book lovers post updates on life, blog happenings, and their recent book hauls.

WHOLLY GUACAMOLE! It’s been three whole weeks since my last Sunday Synopsis.  Christmas and New Years came and went without too much fanfare.  Family. Food. Wine. Repeat. Nothing too spectacular on the Holiday front, but I did have two semi-momentous accomplishments since my last Sunday Synopsis:

I learned to make sushi.*  The Husband got us a Sushi making class for Christmas and we went last week.  Not only did my rolls turn out spectacularly, no one got food poisoning!

*Fun Fact:  I’m a really good cook, but my family won’t let me in the kitchen because I accidentally put a fork in the microwave 25+ years ago.  I cooked the husband a three-course seafood feast for Christmas and the next day my Mom wouldn’t even let me peel potatoes….

I turned my office into a library.  Although the only real difference is that we now call it “Mallory’s Library” and I removed a bookshelf to make room for a cozy reading couch. (And before you ask – you don’t need to revoke my bookworm card.  The evicted bookshelf was broken beyond repair)

Lately on the Blog:

First, allow me to make a general observation that the blogosphere’s energy as we launch 2018 is off the charts.  Anyone else noticing the surge in creativity, new friends, and overall “we’re in this together” type vibes? The book blogging community kicked-off 2018 with a bang and let’s keep it rolling!

On a more microcosmic scale, I got three posts up-and-running this week with lots already scheduled for the weeks ahead!  One post was my 2018 Bookish resolutions and why I’m intending to read less in 2018.  I want to be more intentional on my book choices this year and am trying to re-evaluate my relationship with reading – especially so I can focus cool things for the blog.  Here’s a summary of my first three posts for 2018:

Read this Week:

I read one chapter of one book, and I’m not sure how I’m feeling about it.  If the way you start the New Year is how you finish it, then I’m in trouble!

  1. Yay for the sushi class, sounds fun! And having a personal library- very cool. 🙂 And it’s nice to see the book blogosphere getting off to a good start on 2018.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks, Greg! Hope you found your Sunday nice and relaxing 🙂

Really, the “Library” is a little bit of an exaggeration, but it’s something I’ve always wanted so I’m going for it!!! (Plus I’m not really sure what home libraries should look like anymore because 90% of the books I own are on my Kindle?)

  2. Nope, I’m not feeling the excitement xD I’m just feeling a lack of sleep, lol 😀 I’m glad you’re back to the Sunday post though!

Oh cool, sushi is very cool! I never took a class, but I do enjoy making sushi, although getting the right ingredients can be kind of hard where I live.

The fork story xD seriously? What happened? Did it explode? 😀 (I hate microwaves!!)

Oh yeah, you’re definitely right, the blogosphere is exciting right now! Must be a start of the year kind of thing.

    Happy reading this week 🙂

Evelina, I have no idea how you’re keeping up with everything this year!!! 🙂 🙂 The New Blogger discussion posts look like a huge success and I’m seeing your Blogging 101 posts all over the place. Can I just take a nap on your behalf and send the restful vibes your way? 😛

Sushi ingredients are hard to get here too! I’m in the middle of the U.S., so as far away from an ocean as you can get and you definitely don’t wan to eat raw fish from our lakes. Making Sushi at home could be an interesting new challenge 🙂

Oh and the fork story…. there were a few sparks and then my mom came into the room and yelled at me. The microwave and fork were fine (I might have been melting butter?). My Husband used to get annoyed with me that I was being “lazy” and never helped in the kitchen when my mom came to visit… until he witnessed what happened when I volunteered to make a salad. Guess I’m on permanent dish duty 🙂

Haha – my husband is so tired of hearing about the fork story from my Mom. It’s actually getting pretty comical. I’m not sure what her reaction is going to be when I tell her I’m making sushi now 🙂 I mean, she still doesn’t believe my herb garden exists 😛

      Happy reading, Samantha!
