The Hidden Legacy series by #1
New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews continues as Nevada and Rogan navigate a world where magic is the norm…and their relationship burns hot

Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …

I’m so grateful that the third (and hopefully not final!) installment in the Hidden Legacy trilogy comes out at the end of July because WOW!  This book didn’t disappoint.

White Hot picks up two months after the events in Burn for Me. Nevada is still trying to keep her family’s Private Investigation business afloat while strengthening her powers as a human lie detector.  She hasn’t heard from Connor “Mad” Rogan since she rejected him, but their worlds collide once again when Nevada accepts her newest case-o-danger.

What starts out as a seemingly straightforward investigation takes a scary and frightening turn full of political and magical plot twists.  Seriously, there were times it made my head hurt keeping up with everything and we learn about SO many more types of magic.  This could be a seriously empty piece of feedback because let’s face it, everything gets confusing at 3 am when you can’t put a book down. Never fear though, the fantastic Andrews duo continues to provide mini-plot recaps and patiently reminds us of what’s what throughout the book.

Connor “Mad” Rogan continued to be my favorite star of the show and Andrews takes a much more humanized approach exploring his character this time around.  White Hot dug a layer deeper into Connor’s persona and started uncovering more about his views on war and why he’s so fiercely protective of his team. (Plus his pursuit of Nevada continues to be off-the-charts hot).  We also get a lot of Connor backstory about his childhood and time in the war, which I loved.

The cast of secondary characters was once again amazing.  Really, there could easily be a book or novella off each of Nevada’s family members and I’d read each one.  This book takes a deeper dive into the personalities of Nevada’s teenage siblings and cousins – all three of which are vying against Nevada’s grandmother for best secondary characters.

And finally, I feel obliged as a romance junkie to comment on said romance between Nevada and Rogan. It’s intense, even melt the pages intense at parts. But there were so many other aspects of the book that I absolutely loved and it surprises me that I don’t have a lot to say here.  Just know that this is another area that won’t fail to disappoint.

5.0 stars.  Give me the next book. Now.  (And BTW- does this really need to be just a trilogy?  I’d gladly take a dozen more Hidden Legacy books.)
